From the 1st to 31st October 2011 Slovene Lions collects used prescription eyeglasses for the poor people of "third world" in Mercator shopping centers. The Campaign which is conducted under the auspices of the Association of Lions Clubs Slovenia - District 129, was revitalized by Lions Club Ljubljana Trnovski zvon.
Slovenian Lions Clubs at the local level, like many clubs around the world, for many years now organized campaign of collecting used eyeglasses for the people of the economically less developed countries. Broad-based campaign is running in 28 Mercator shopping centers, a list of collection points is available on the website www.recikliraj-ocala.si.
We are inviting anyone who has at home old, but still useful prescription glasses to bring it/them to the nearest Mercator shopping center. Collected glasses will be delivered to Lions Club Trnovski zvon, where glasses will be sorted and prepared for transport by assistence of Ingrid Rahne, oftamologist.
In an effort to establish long-term collection points, where we can rent out your used eyeglasses at any time, Lions invite all businesses, shops and business premises to join the project. A larger part of the glasses will be sent to a collection center in Italy, the remain part will be delivered to students of Tropical Medicine Section to take away with them to
Africa, where they will be distributed among the population.
Two main topics were discussed on the first meeting of Lions Club Ljubljana in the new working year 2011/2012.
First up was the presidential term officially farewell from the current president Martin Logar and then symbolically handed over the presidential badge to newly elected president Dusan Papez.
Thanks to Martin for the work to date and congratulations and good wishes for the future to Dusan were followed by presentation and discussion about preparation of the biggest charity event organized by Lion Club Ljubljana - the great charity ball in January 2012.
Special event members of Lions Club Ljubljana awaits every June, when the last working meeting is combined with family entertainment and hospitality of Lajovic family in Bohinj. A traditional club meeting once again succeeded wonderfully despite the fickle weather. 25 members, some accompanied by family, has completed this working year.
This last meeting brought some special moments as well. New members, Martin Lazar and Tomaz Senica, joined the club with the honorary oath ceremony. The current president Martin Logar handed over the management of the club to elected new President Dusan Papez and wished him a good working year. Dusan will be certainly helped by a full range of information and proposals that were brought by the club-house survey results.
The entertaining part of the day followed with walk, bingo and a picnic, ending in a relaxed and festive atmosphere.
The first September meeting of the Lions Club Ljubljana began with a report on the work, of now former president of the club, Darinka Pavlic Kamien, who handed over his presidential badge to Martin Logar, the new 2010/2011 President of Lions Club Ljubljana.We are grateful Darinnka for her dedicated and responsible work. At the same time we congratulate the new President and we stand at the side of all the challenges comming with the new working year.
In working year 2009/10 Lions Club Ljubljana donated more than 33 thousand Euros.
Members evaluate their work at the final club meeting of the season traditionally held in Bohinj. In working year 2009/10, in which we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Lions Club Ljubljana, we donated more than 33 thousand Euros to nineteen organizations or individuals to solve their problems. At the same time we have donated 40 computers together with Telekom Slovenia and Mobitel to five elementary schools and four organizations for protégés with special needs.
We attended several events of friendship clubs and related organizations, actively participated in the Slovenian Lions Convention, three of our members were active members of the Cabinet of the Governor.

Danilo Tomšič, member of Lions Club Ljubljana, won the 3rd place at Lions Charity Ski Open 2010
Lions Charity Ski open is traditional event in the organization of Lions Club Bled Golf. It combines athletic spirit with charity in order to help 15 children with Angelman syndrome. We congratulate to Danilo Tomšič, member of Lions Club Ljubljana who won the 3rd place. We congratulate to Lions Club Bled Golf as well for the organization of this excellent event. We serve together!
It will be completed 21 years from first charity of Lions Club Ljubljana In November this year.
Fluds in November 1990 have done a lot of damage to the people living in Ljubno ob Savinji and Luče. The Hribersek familiy was left without their home. Lions Club Ljubljana helped them to buy new home in cooperation with Lions Club Carinthia. Together we have donated 50.000 Austrian Schilings and 50.000 dinars. "The one who gives quick, gives twice" is the principle that members of Lions Club Ljubljana are strongly aware.
The celebration of 20th anniversary of Lions Club Ljubljana took place at traditional Great Lions Charity Ball at which we have donated 25.000 euros.

Lions Club Ljubljana will celebrate in year 2010 its 20th anniversary.
The establishment of Lions Club Ljubljana set foundation to lionism in Slovenia and together we have collected and donated more than 4 million euros. Having in mind the size of our population this also means that Slovene lions are the most active national group within world's lionism.
Lions Club Ljubljana will celebrate its solemn jubilee by organizing the Great Lions Charity Ball that will take place on 23rd January, 2010 at 19.30 in Cankarjev dom.

Lions Club Ljubljana will colour its charity ball also with mission of Ljubljana as World Book Capital 2010 named by UNESCO. Ljubljana, which put its name forward for the first time, won the award against stiff competition from Vienna, Lisbon, St. Petersburg, Riga, Guadalajara and Wellington.
We are inviting you to bring one of your own books to the Lions Charity Ball. We will donate collected books to library of the recently opened Home for elders in Trnovo, Ljubljana.

Lions Club Ljubljana has successfully concluded charity action selling The Beautiful Slovenia Calendar. We have sold over 6000 copies in cooperation with Centre for training, work and care Dolfka Bostjancic. With collected funds we were able to buy 24.000 euros worth Volkswagen van which will be a tremendous help in transportation of children with special needs. >>

Members of Lions Club Ljubljana visited a large scale exhibition Slovene Impressionists and their Time 1890-1920 at the National Gallery of Slovenia. We were privileged and honored to have a guided tour by the author of the exhibition and also a memeber of Lions Club Ljubljana, dr. Barbara Jaki.
It was a true experience to meet the original work of four Slovene master Impressionists and many of their companions, artists in sculpture, photography and architecture.
We have invited to the exhibition also our friends from Lions Club Slovenske Konjice and Mr. Boris Znidaric, actual governor of Lions District 129.

Dr. Barbara Jaki, Director of Slovene national Galler in Ljubljana, the author of exhibition The Slovene Impressionists and their Time 1890-1920, and also a memeber of Lions Club Ljubljana has been nominated for Slovene Woman of the Year 2008. We will learn which Slovene woman made the gratest impression with her personality and actions on 22nd January, 2009.

Lions Club Ljubljana became a sponsor of new Lions Club Ljubljana Viva. Mrs Alesa Kandus, the Guiding Lion and Mrs Nastja Škopac the President of the new Lions Club Ljubljana Viva expressed their gratitude for our sponsorship. The new Lions Club will count 20 exclusively women members. They will organize their Charter Night on 21st March, 2009. We gave them a practical present: hammer and bell.

Lions Club Ljubljana hosted Mrs Vida Ogorelec Wagner, President of the board of Umanotera, The Slovenian Foundation for Sustainable Development. She presented us »The Climate Report« about climate changes in Slovenia. She got the licence for it by Al Gore in December 2006 Nashwille. You can read more on www.umanotera.org.
Borut Miklavcic, Pra Lion and founding member of Lions Club Ljubljana
Borut Miklavcic, Pra Lion and founding member of Lions Club Ljubljana is Minister of Health. He has many years of experience on the health field: he was responsible for the investments of University Medical Centre Ljubljana, he managed the Republic Health Committee, he took over the management of The Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia in 2003. He was the President of Slovenian Red Cross until he took over the Ministry of Health. We proudly congratulate to Borut Miklavcic, co-member of Lions Club Ljubljana.
The management of the Austria Trend Hotel Ljubljana presented itself to us with a humanitarian gesture: their donation of 2000 Euro will provide an easier and nicer life for many children and people in distress, who are receiving help of the Lions Club Ljubljana through financial donations. On the meeting of the clubs on the 22nd of May, 2008 in the hotel we agreed on a mutual idea: it feels wonderful to help someone.

On the 23rd and 24th of May, 2008 in Celje, the 8th convention of the Lions Clubs Association, district 129 ��" Slovenian, will take place.
On the 9th of May, 2008 at 19:30 in the hotel Paka in Velenje the new Lions Club Velenje celebrated its founding night - the Charter Night of the new Lions Club Velenje.
At the regular annual assembly in April Members of the Lions Club Ljubljana accepted a new member, Mojca Camplin, in their ranks.
