From the 1st to 31st October 2011 Slovene Lions collects used prescription eyeglasses for the poor people of "third world" in Mercator shopping centers.  The Campaign which is conducted under the auspices of the Association of Lions Clubs Slovenia - District 129, was revitalized by Lions Club Ljubljana Trnovski zvon.

Slovenian Lions Clubs at the local level, like many clubs around the world, for many years now organized campaign of collecting used eyeglasses for the people of the economically less developed countries. Broad-based campaign is running in 28 Mercator shopping centers, a list of collection points is available on the website www.recikliraj-ocala.si.

We are inviting anyone who has at home old, but still useful prescription glasses to bring it/them to the nearest Mercator shopping center. Collected glasses will be delivered to Lions Club Trnovski zvon, where glasses will be sorted and prepared for transport by assistence of   Ingrid Rahne, oftamologist.

In an effort to establish long-term collection points, where we can rent out your used eyeglasses at any time, Lions invite all businesses, shops and business premises to join the project. A larger part of the glasses will be sent to a collection center in Italy, the remain part will be delivered to students of Tropical Medicine Section to take away with them to
Africa, where they will be distributed among the population.

Special event members of Lions Club Ljubljana awaits every June, when the last working meeting is combined with family entertainment and hospitality of Lajovic family in Bohinj. A traditional club meeting once again succeeded wonderfully despite the fickle weather. 25 members, some accompanied by family, has completed this working year.

The current president Martin Logar handed over the management of the club to elected new President Dusan Papez and wished him a good working year. Dusan will be certainly helped by  a full range of information and proposals that were brought by the club-house survey results.

The management of the Austria Trend Hotel Ljubljana presented itself to us with a humanitarian gesture: their donation of 2000 Euro will provide an easier and nicer life for many children and people in distress, who are receiving help of the Lions Club Ljubljana through financial donations. On the meeting of the clubs on the 22nd of May, 2008 in the hotel we agreed on a mutual idea: it feels wonderful to help someone.

About the hotel:

Austria Trend Hotels & Resorts, a part of the biggest Austrian tourist concern Verkehrsbüro Group, is without doubt the leading Austrian hotel group. Soon they’ll reach the number of 33 hotels with approximately 10.000 beds, mostly in Austria and its neighbourhood. They’re in the lead largely due to their reference to business tourism. Their expansion over the Austrian borders the group Austria Trend Hotels& Resorts started in Slovenia. Before joining the group, the Hotel Ljubljana has already created a clear working strategy that completely agrees with the orientation of the group. The proximity and connection of Ljubljana to the management of the group in Vienna is also important. The Austria Trend Hotel Ljubljana is a distinctive business and congress hotel and with its offer it can suit various requirements of modern business meetings.
